Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Civara LLC ("Civara", "we", "us"). They cover your use of the Civara app and website (the "Service"). By creating an account, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy.

1. What Civara is

Civara helps California families with the government forms around having a baby, starting with the Employment Development Department's (EDD) State Disability Insurance (SDI) and Paid Family Leave (PFL) programs. Civara builds a plan of what to do and when, and, when you give permission for a task, does the work on the EDD's website for you.

Civara is a private company. It is not a government agency, it is not part of the EDD, and it is not a law firm. Civara does not give legal, tax or medical advice. Using Civara for the government forms for a new baby is free.

2. Who can use Civara

You must be at least 18 years old and able to agree to these Terms. You may use Civara only for yourself, or as the second parent a Civara user invites to see their plan.

3. Your account

You sign in with your Google account, or with a code we email to the address you signed up with. You can also save a passkey on your device and sign in with it. Seeing or sending your most sensitive details, such as your Social Security number or bank details, asks you to confirm it is you again. Keep your email account, phone and devices secure, and tell us at support@civara.com if you think someone else has used your account. You are responsible for what is done through your account.

4. What Civara does for you, and what stays yours

Before Civara works on a government website for you, it asks your permission for that task, in plain words, on the task's screen. You can see every step Civara took, and you can withdraw a permission at any time.

5. Your responsibilities

6. No guarantee of benefits

The EDD alone decides eligibility for its programs, how much you receive and when. Civara cannot guarantee any decision, amount or timing, and is not responsible for the EDD's decisions, delays or website problems. Deadlines in your plan are worked out from what you told us and the EDD's rules; check important dates with the EDD.

7. Texts and emails

If you agree to texts, Civara texts you before deadlines, when it needs an answer from you, and when your claim changes, with a copy of each text by email. Message frequency varies, usually a few messages a month. Msg & data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts, START to turn them back on, or HELP for help. You do not need to agree to texts to use Civara. Sign-in codes come by email, only when you ask for one.

8. Recordings and your record

Civara may record its browser while it works on a government website for you, so you can see exactly what it did. Recordings are part of your record: you can view, download or delete them. Our support staff can watch a recording only while you have asked us for help and given them access, to see exactly what happened; each viewing is recorded. See our Privacy Policy for how we protect them.

9. AI

Civara uses AI models from service providers to read government web pages and decide the next step, and to answer your questions in the app. We limit what these models receive, as our Privacy Policy explains. AI can make mistakes, which is one reason you review and submit your forms yourself.

10. Your content and our service

You keep all rights to the information you give Civara. You let us use it only to provide the Service to you, as our Privacy Policy describes. Civara, its app and its content belong to Civara and its licensors; these Terms do not give you any rights to them beyond using the Service.

11. Ending your account

You can delete your account at any time from the app. When you do, we delete your information as our Privacy Policy describes. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these Terms or puts others at risk, and will tell you why unless the law prevents it.

12. Changes

We may update these Terms. When we do, we will show you what changed and ask you to agree to the new version before you continue using Civara. Each version has a number and the date it takes effect.

13. Disclaimers and limits

[To be completed by counsel: the Service is provided "as is"; disclaimers of warranties and limits of liability to the extent the law allows.]

14. Disputes and governing law

[To be completed by counsel: governing law (California), venue and any dispute resolution terms.]
